Tennis/Day 16/Black Dog Gelato on the Cooking Channel
2011
I have to give a shout out to my niece Jessie – her very successful gelato shop was featured in “Unique Sweets” episode on the Cooking Channel last night!
They showed her shop, she talked about how she makes gelato, they showed the different unique flavors she makes – it was very exciting!
She also shared one of her most popular flavors – salted peanut gelato – recipe on the Cooking Channel’s website – click HERE to see the recipe.
The Cooking Channel went there a few months ago, and I taped the show as a series and every week we would wait to see if it was on and it finally aired! Great job Jessie! If you get a chance to check her place out, it’s on Damen in Chicago – here is her website: www.blackdogchicago.com.
On the exercise front, I was trying to think of something I could do that I would enjoy. My daughter Claire and I batted around some ideas. She wanted to roller blade, but I haven’t done that in about 10 years, so I thought that may not be a great idea. Then I asked her if she wanted to play tennis. There are tennis courts a block from my house at the local park, but I just wanted to hit it against a wall. So we walked over to her school where there is a ton of wall space. It was so much fun. I did that for 45 minutes! When I was little I spent a lot of time hitting tennis balls against our house, or at the park, so it came right back to me. Claire however got a little frustrated because she wanted to do it perfect right off the bat. I kept telling her it takes practice, and I had many hours logged as a kid doing it, so she couldn’t expect to be awesome at it right away. I did have to wipe some tears from her eyes.. poor baby. However I thought it was funny that later I overheard her say to her brother “Mom is really great at tennis!” I thought that was cute.
So, day 16 of 100 days exercising straight and I feel great! I hope I can keep it going!!
How was everyone’s weekend? We’ve got storms in Chicagoland the beginning of the week, so hopefully it won’t affect me being able to ride my bike to work.

Hey what fun to have a star in the family… It’s been about 20 years for me an rollerblading… but in my youth
Course you can go further back and I was a bit of a roller disco king… I do so miss the wardrobe
Now, just my morning constitutional, about 5 miles round trip to the store, a great walk, great way to keep up with a book on tape every couple of weeks.
Heading over to take a look at your niece’s website now

How awesome for your niece – looks like she’s having great success and that is just so nice to see!
I used to love to hit the tennis ball against my garage door but my dad didn’t like what it did to the door all that much. A wall is a much better choice. Sounds fun, and how nice that you impressed Claire so much! Poor kiddo – she’ll get it – that hand/eye coordination takes a little practice.

How cool that your niece was featured on the Cooking Channel. Unfortunately, we don’t get that channel…
Great job with the exercise. It’s so important to find activities you enjoy! Love what Claire told her brother!!!

Aw, that’s both a cute/sad story about Clare. It’s great that you got to exercise together. I have awful hand/eye coordination, so that would not be my cup of tea!
