First of all, I have to say that by proclaiming to the world that I would not have one piece of candy this Halloween, it made it easier for me to say no to all that candy! That means not only yesterday, but also as long as my kids candy is in this house.
Well……I DID IT!!! NO CANDY EATING ON HALLOWEEN!!! It was kind of nice not having to worry about it since I said I wouldn’t. I seriously saved myself thousands of calories! Hooray!!!!!
************
My kids sometimes ask if I will go to Dunkin Donuts to buy them donuts. We usually reserve that for birthdays, so I said, nope, but I can probably make some! There were immediate groans because they thought it would be gross! I knew better, even though I had never made them before, I thought I could make it!
Ingredients:
3 c. flour
1 cup sugar
1 TB. smart balance spread (or butter)
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Mix in a mixer until the dough starts to come together. Then take it out and knead it a little. Then I rolled it out using a rolling pin until the dough was about 1 inch high.
I didn’t have a cookie cutter, but used a glass to cut the donuts. Then I used a shot glass to cut the middle out to make the munchkins.
Then, I realized I had no canola oil! All I had was olive oil. So these weren’t deep fried, I only put enough oil in the pan to cover the bottom. After they were browned on both sides, I then put them in the microwave for a minute to make sure the inside was cooked. They turned out great.
The dough made 12 donuts plus 1 munchkin. For each donut BEFORE cooking, it is 191 calories, .8 fat and .8 fiber and 3.69 protein.
I didn’t use a ton of oil, so I wasn’t sure how to figure out how many more calories for actually cooking them. And for the toppings, we made a glaze, used Nutella and sprinkles and powdered sugar.
They turned out really great and my kids had so much fun helping make them. Afterwards I asked them if they had more fun making them, or getting them from Dunkin Donuts, and they said “Making Them!”

Congrats on having no candy!!!! I totally understand … for me, it’s none at all or too much! It’s so much easier for me to just say I’m going to have none at all then say I’m just going to have “a few”.
Your homemade donuts looks delicious : )

Congrats on resisting the Halloween candy – well done!
The donuts look fab but I wouldn’t DARE have them in my house for fear of instant inhalation!

Great idea for the donuts! They look so simple to make…I like your rule for only having dunkin donuts on bdays-I may have to put that into effect for krispie kreme!
