Home made rolls/quiche in a bread bowl!

Thanks to Dave at Year on the Grill and Cathy at Noble pig, I tried out both of their recipes. Cathy posted a recipe for an egg that was cooked in a bread bowl. Dave went one step further by making his own rolls!

My rolls!

The rolls turned out great! And they were super easy. They made 8 BIG rolls, you could easily make them smaller.

Ingredients for rolls:

1 cup warm water
2 TB. butter
1 egg
3 1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 stp. salt
3 tsp. yeast

Add the yeast to the warm water and stir, let that rest a few minutes. Then I just dumped the rest of the ingredients into my mixer and mixed it for several minutes until it all came together.

I separated the dough into 8 equal sections, and place them on a greased cookie sheet. Let rest for 30-40 minutes. Add sesame seeds and poppy seeds if desired.

Bake for 12-14 minutes at 375 degrees.

So the next part was making breakfast for the next day.

I cut off the top of the bread and scooped out the dough:

In a separate dish, I added 1 egg, 1 egg white, 1 green onion (chopped) and 4 slices of deli ham (chopped). It was too much for one roll, so I divided that between 2 rolls. Then top with a little cheese and bake for 20 minutes at 350.

This is what it looked like before going into the oven:

And after: Biz, you’ll like the plate!

Done!

The rolls were 249 calories each, but like I mentioned, they were BIG! With the egg/ham/cheese mixture added, it was only an extra 100 calories, so this totally deluxe quich in a bread bowl was only 350 calories!!. And, it kept me full all morning, I didn’t need a morning snack, so that was good!

So thanks again to Dave and Cathy for the inspiration!
