Home made kit kat bars

I have been making these for Christmas for about the last 8 years or so.  One day, I was at Walmart, stocking up on flour, sugar, etc… for baking cookies, and I happened upon a huge hunk of chocolate called Almond Bark.  Its chocolate for making candies, such as chocolate covered almonds, chocolate with bits of candy cane crushed in it, dropped onto wax paper.  I read the back of the chocolate package and it had a recipe using graham crackers, peanut butter dipped into the melted chocolate.  How easy!  I got the stuff to make it, came home and the first bite I took, I yelled “I just made a kit kat bar!”  It tastes just like it.  And like I said you need 3 things.  The chocolate, the graham crackers and peanut butter. p1010007.jpg

  1. I should mention, DO NOT use cheep-o graham crackers!  I have made that mistake  before and when you try to break the graham crackers into 4′s, they just crumble in your hands and it is super frustrating!p1010010.jpgStep 1:  Start with the graham crackerp1010015.jpgStep 2:  Break them into 4 pieces.p1010021.jpgStep 3:  Put peanut butter into the middlep1010024.jpgStep 4:  Melt the chocolate in 20 second increments in the microwave until melted.p1010029.jpgStep 5: Using a fork, dip the graham cracker into the chocolate until completely covered.p1010030.jpgStep 6: Let them dry on wax paper for a few minutes until set.  p1010041.jpgReady to eat!*One thing that you can’t use in place of this chocolate is chocolate chips. It won’t set and you will have wet kit kat bars!  You can buy this chocolate where the chocolate chips are sold at Jewel or Dominick’s, or Walmart.  You can make these in about 20 minutes!  They are a great last minute gift to make someone in your family!

  1. I used to put these in Christmas boxes, but I used the white chocolate. It’s one of my most favorite diet foods in the world.

My wife made this last week when I was at work. That’s what she tells me as I had to take her word for it. My kids scarfed them down before I got home. :)

I can confirm – they are really good! You can also use Wilton’s melting chocolates that are sold at Michaels. They have milk chocolate and dark cocoa chocolate.

I didn’t know that Mom, I will have to check it out!
