Barilla Pasta Sauces

As part of Food Buzz’s taste testers program, I was sent 2 new flavors of sauces. One was arrabiata sauce which is a spicy version of pasta sauce and the other one was a cheese rosa sauce.

Each one was very good, however the cheese sauce was a little high in calories/fat for me. For only 1/4 cup of the sauce it was 100 calories and 10 grams of fat. I did however make one serving of pasta, and measured out the 1/4 cup and it was really tasty.

With the 2 jars of sauce also came information about Barilla Pasta and sauces. I’ve certainly tried their products before and have never been dissapointed. I was given some recipes and upon visiting their website found that they had many healthy recipes with their products. One I wanted to share was for Pasta with zucchini and parmesan!

1 box BARILLA® Whole Grain Penne
to taste sea salt
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 clove garlic, chopped
4 small zucchini, thinly sliced
2 cups cherry tomatoes
4 basil leaves, torn in small pieces
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, shaved

BRING a large pot of water to a boil.
zucchini with sea salt. Heat olive oil in medium-sized skillet, add garlic and sauté for 2 minutes.
ADD zucchini and sauté for additional two minutes.
ADD cherry tomatoes and sauté until skins are slightly blistered and the tomatoes are heated all the way through. Add basil to skillet.
COOK pasta according to package directions.
DRAIN pasta, add to skillet and toss with cheese before serving.

That’s a nice light dinner!

I liked the arrabiata sauce too, and the calories/fat were way better than the cheese sauce, but I was expecting it to be a little spicier.

    The pasta with zucchini & Parmesan sounds great! I just used the arrabiata sauce today with shrimp and peppers, and it turned out well. Haven’t tried the cheese sauce yet…
