Anniversary of my Dad’s passing…

My dad and I when he came to visit me at Iowa State

All day today I kept writing the date….September 3rd, and I felt that there was something significant about it, until it hit me. Today is the day my Dad died September 3rd, 1998. My oldest son was only 2, my younger son was only 7 weeks old. It wasn’t a shock when he died, from the moment he was diagnosed with cancer, it was a long year and a half before the end. But even though we knew it was coming, he was only 59 which is WAY too young in my book!!!

My Mom and Dad, maybe 15 years ago??

In this picture, my Dad is holding my twin sister Biz’s daughter Hannah on the left and my brother’s oldest daughter Sarah. They are 18 and 17 now!

My Mom and my son Paul the day we scattered my Dad's ashes

My dad was awesome, super funny, very optimistic, artistic and a huge support of me. In fact he was a chef growing up, so I am pretty sure he would have loved my blog!

I miss you Dad!

Jennifer – I read your blog all the time (and I love it) but have never left a comment. I thought this post definately deserved a comment. Its a wonderful post. I’m sure your dad would love your blog!!
P.S. I see Paul and Amanda are friends on facebook. So weird that they barely know each other. Hopefully they’ll get to know one another better now that they’ll see each other more often at school.

  9. 59 gets younger and younger the closer I get to it. Plus, he really missed out on the blogging craze. Can you imagine what he would have done with a food blog?

I agree with Charlie – my Dad would have been the best food blogger out there!

  16. I was thinking more like 25 years, B. I remember that set of portraits being done while I was away at Iowa State.
