And the winner is….

Fitness surfer!  Congratulations!  E-mail me at slim-shoppin@comcast.net and give me your address and your stir fry sauces will be on their way!

Check back later for the recipe of the day!!

My sister-in-law Joan forwarded me a great e-mail today from The New York Times.  It was written by Mark Bittman.  He’s authored a bunch of cookbooks, and he was on that tour to Spain shown on PBS with Mario Batali and Gwenyth Paltrow.  I’m adding the link; it basically talks about starting out the new year with a fresh pantry and what to get rid of and what to keep.  It’s very informative, some things I would never have thought of.  http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/07/dining/07mini.html?_r=1&emc=eta1

Last night for dinner I made Jennie-O turkey bratwurst and turkey Italian sausage with sauteed green peppers and onions.  While I was cooking them, I noticed there were a few recipes on the packaging, so I thought I would go on-line and see what other recipes I could find and I wish I would have had the ingredients for this recipe because one suggestion for the turkey bratwurst was making a bratwurst Reuben.  Basically, you cook or grill the bratwurst, and serve it with sauerkraut, a little drizzle of thousand island dressing and some shredded swiss cheese on a toasted bun!

I like the Turkey sausages/bratwursts that they make because each one is only 170 calories, and 10 grams of fat.  I know the fat content is still a little high, but I figure a Johnsonville brat is about 26 grams of fat, so its a little better than that.

Do you have any favorite Jennie-O products you like?  I am also a huge fan of their 65% less fat turkey bacon.

You and I are on the same food wavelengths, lately! I’m making stir fry tonight b/c yours looked so good and put me in the mood. But, as I was thinking earlier of a meal-plan I thought “we haven’t had brats and peppers in awhile,” and now you made them! haha

    Hi Jenn,
That was a great article by Mark Bittman. Thanks for sharing. The other night I was watching the Mario Batali and Gwenyth Paltrow show and got sooo hungry watching them eat all that amazing food that I had to make something in the spirit (and it had to be light). Bruchettas were the answer and it satisfied us. Keep warm!

Wouldn’t that be so great, to take a trip to Spain with Food Experts and an interpreter and just enjoy all that wonder ful food?

That was a good idea about bruchettas!

  4. YES, yes, YES!!! Thank you so much! I usually never win anything, but I’ve been very lucky lately.

    Thanks again!
